The Tannery Arts Center welcomes back Camp Tannery Arts after a 2020 cancelation. Linda Cover, founder and teacher of Camp Tannery Arts, is getting ready for her 10th annual camp!

Before moving to the Tannery, Cover lived in Watsonville. She started a nature and art children’s camp and was blown away by the “wealth of richness and creativity” that flowed from the children. In 2009, Cover shifted her Watsonville nature school to the Camp Tannery Arts.
“I was very inspired by the Tannery Arts Center itself when I began to build out the curriculum for the camp,” Cover recounts. “The depth of art expressed here, and the cultures that are expressed here are amazing. The Tannery’s diversity, in both genre and culture, is a unique experience that is wonderful to share with young ones.”

This year, the camp will be held outdoors at the Tannery from August 2nd to the 6th, featuring over 15 artists in the local area. Artists will teach children, ages 7-15, a wide range of art during morning and afternoon sessions. The art will include dance, painting, spoken word, drumming, murals, songwriting, and much more. Cover is very excited about the line-up of artists this year because they make “the camp strikingly unique because they can connect young artists with a diversity of cultures and art that we normally don’t interact with.”
Johanna Atkinson, Printmaker and small business owner of Proper Native, will lead campers through outdoor printmaking. Ibou Ngom, a SPECTRA and master drummer/dance/performance artist, will teach campers about the sounds of Senegal through traditional West African drumming. These core artists are just two amazing and talented artists with whom campers will learn and grow. The camp has 12 available spots, so sign up today!
