Cal Fire, Scotts Valley F.D., extinguish small fire northeast of Scotts Valley

Amid Monday’s red-flag warning, a fire caused by a downed power line burned through about three-quarters of an acre on Jarvis Road near Scotts Valley.

Cal Fire, with help from the Scotts Valley Fire Department, quickly contained the flames.

“Flames were first reported just before 10 a.m. northeast of Scotts Valley in Santa Cruz County,” according to the Cal Fire CZU Twitter feed. “CAL FIRE CZU sent a full assignment response, including aircraft, engines, and a dozer, with Scotts Valley Fire assisting.”

Dry conditions and unusually warm December weather are posing continued fire risk. The red-flag warning Saturday night into Monday marked the first red-flag warning in the month of December since 2017.

Santa Cruz County has announced two efforts to help residents displaced by the fire.
