Peace begins at home.
Years active: 85+
Their story: For more than 85 years, Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center has helped individuals and families lead healthier, happier lives. Founded as the YWCA in 1933 and renamed in 1994 to best reflect our services, Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center has called the old blue house at 303 Walnut Avenue home since 1944.
The main focus is supporting individuals and families in developing healthier relationships with self, with loved ones, and with their community. The Early Education Center focuses on helping children develop confidence in their own abilities, self-regulation, and healthy social skills within its classrooms; Services for Survivors of Domestic Violence offers crisis intervention, support groups, and education; Services for Children & Youth work with children and teens both one-on-one and in groups to develop life skills; and the Community Engagement program provides opportunities for community members to receive training and practice in any and all of these programs.
