Gregory R. Burros, 34, a Santa Cruz County resident, was arrested around 10 a.m. on Thursday by the police department’s Neighborhood Policing Team, which spotted him in a vehicle in the 100 block of Doyle Street . Police say Burros is the man who robbed the Super Silver Jewelry store in the 1300 block of Pacific Avenue early Wednesday.
Around 3 a.m. that day, “responding officers discovered the [jewelry store’s] front window had been smashed, and several items of jewelry had been stolen,” police said in a news release. “Officers searched the business and found the suspect had already fled the scene.”
The business’ loss is estimated in the tens of thousands of dollars, police said.
Police collected video surveillance from the business and surrounding areas and captured this image of a suspect, later identified as Burros based on the resident’s tip.

“Community assistance helped solve this case. THANK YOU,” the police department said in a post on Twitter. “#SantaCuz quickly responded, notifying #SantaCruzPolice they recognized the suspect. Patrol Officers ran an investigation into the suspect’s identity & confirmed that’s the right guy. #gotcha”
Detectives are currently looking into possible connections between Burros and any other burglaries in the immediate area.
