Providing safe harbor for animals in need and promoting an active humane community.

Years active: 82

Their story: The Santa Cruz SPCA has provided programs and resources focused on adoption and rescue, spay and neuter awareness and more for over 80 years.

The Santa Cruz SPCA doesn’t back away from challenges and we are proud to provide safe harbor to animals that others are unable to care for. Our state-of-the-art facility, on Chanticleer Avenue, is an ideal environment to provide specialized care for animals with many kinds of special needs. Animals that might otherwise be overlooked instead find love at the Santa Cruz SPCA, where they become members of our family for as long as it takes to find their forever homes. Community support allows us to save hundreds of individual animals each year, including those animals with special needs and those that might be a bit rough around the edges.

This year, the Santa Cruz SPCA will:

  • Provide care for hundreds of homeless animals and find them new, loving families in and around Santa Cruz;
  • Give away over 25,000 pounds of dog and cat food to help keep pets with the families that love them;
  • Teach 4,000 local school children (elementary to high school) humane animal care practices; and
  • Host 20,000 hours of soul-nourishing, volunteer hours.

“In the world of animal welfare, no one shelter can do it all. We must work together for the greatest impact in the lives of animals and the humans that care for them.”
