Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks is opening applications for the Kids2Parks field trip program, which funds transportation costs for field trips to state parks and beaches for students who might not otherwise be able to afford to go.
The program funds transportation for students in second through fourth grades at Title I schools in Santa Cruz, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Title I schools are public schools that receive federal funding to support students from low-income families.
Applications are open July 28 through Aug. 22. Selected classes will visit nearby California state parks, with trips covering bus rental and other transportation costs, such as the bus driver’s time and fuel.
Since its launch, Kids2Parks has helped more than 20,000 students experience nature and history at local parks and beaches.
