With their chambers at the government center in Santa Cruz undergoing long-planned renovations, the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors will be meeting at various locations around the county for the rest of the year, starting with Tuesday’s gathering.

The Tuesday meeting will happen in the Watsonville City Council chambers, with other temporary venues including the city council chambers in Scotts Valley and Capitola.

The project is necessary to renovate outdated equipment and facilities, and to improve supervisors meetings for residents attending in person or online. In addition to better security for the staff and public, the chambers at the government center at 701 Ocean St. will be equipped with audiovisual technology that aims to ensure clear sound and reliable streaming. The project is being funded through cable franchise fees that, under federal law, cannot be used for reasons other than public, educational and government access purposes, the county noted in a media release.
