Bayo’s favorite activities that inspire him to make art
For me, art is an expression of the way I feel inside and the stories or proverbs of my upbringing. I come from the Yoruba culture where every symbol or design has a story behind it.
A Yoruba proverb Òwe lẹ́sin ọ̀rọ̀, ọ̀rọ̀ lẹ́sin òwe; bí ọ̀rọ̀ bá sọnù, òwe la fi ń wá a” says: a proverb is a horse that carries your words.
If you’re at a loss for words, go back to the proverb again and the proverb will lead you.
In Yoruba culture, proverbs are deep, symbolic expressions that carry the wisdom of generations. Everything is woven into the proverb. I can hear one proverb and remember others. Our parents always used proverbs talking to us and there’s a whole lot woven into that.
The proverb will carry you.
I also get inspiration from the ocean, walking in the woods, movies, magazines and stories of other cultures.

My recommendation is passion, patience, notice what inspires you and don’t ever give up or get too down if you make a mistake. Mistakes are part of it!
