Kaya Henkes-Power joins Lookout as a newsroom intern during her final year majoring in English at Cabrillo College. After her journey at Cabrillo College, Kaya plans to transfer to a state university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Kaya is passionate about local, objective, informed and compassionate journalism. Her main goal is for her writing have a positive impact and ensure that her articles cover a wide range of perspectives. Kaya is excited to begin her journey in journalism and have the opportunity to intern with the Lookout team.Kaya takes interest in covering a wide range of topics and investigative journalism. Though her journalism career is just beginning, she hopes that her passion for journalism can introduce new topics and people to Lookout. Most importantly, through this internship she wants to take away different ways she can implement various perspectives in a news outlet. When Kaya isn’t interning at Lookout she is investing her time in her personal writing, her studies or relaxing with her cat.
Highway 9 and Highway 236 repair work continues with no reopening dates
Caltrans says crews are working to clear mudslides and repair storm damage to Highway 9 in the Ben Lomond area and Highway 236 near Boulder Creek, but the agency does not yet have an estimated reopening date for either.

The power went out in Felton during storms that hit the community around 1 a.m. on Jan. 8. Pacific Gas & Electric crews were unable to begin repairs in the area of Pine Drive and Redwood Drive until Jan. 23 because of a mudslide, flooding, downed trees and damaged equipment.
