The Democratic Women’s Club of Santa Cruz County is among the organizations sponsoring a forum for California gubernatorial candidates scheduled for next week in Monterey.
Of more than a dozen Democrats running for the nomination to succeed Gavin Newsom as governor, six were confirmed for the March 12 event as of Monday: Xavier Becerra, former California attorney general and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Joe Biden; Ian Calderon, former majority leader in the California Assembly; Matt Mahan, San Jose mayor and a Watsonville native; Tom Steyer, billionaire environmentalist and investor; Antonio Villaraigosa, former Los Angeles mayor; and Betty Yee, former California state controller.
