I am responding to Joshua Logan’s recent letter that claims that the protestors at the recent showing of the movie “October 8” were antisemitic. Of course, it is not Jewish self-determination that is immoral, but Israel’s ethnic cleansing and occupation of Palestinians under an apartheid system and now genocide that is immoral. The protestors were in fact Jews themselves for the most part; we were objecting to the film’s slanderous portrayal of the pro-Palestine movement as antisemitic.
Criticism of Israel and Zionism is not antisemitic. That is why all who believe in the right of expression should oppose the proposed Assembly Bill 715, now going through the California Legislature, that could potentially make illegal criticism of Israel and pro-Palestine expression in our public schools and elsewhere.
