The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission has approved an extra $3 million for Caltrans to address the Highway 1 expansion project’s cost overruns, with a detailed cost estimation expected in August.


Roadwork is affecting traffic near you

  • Route 1 is having some drainage work that’s being done. This started yesterday and will last until June 10.
  • A lane on South SR-1, just north of the off-ramp, is closed because of electrical work. This started yesterday and will end on June 10 at 5:59 a.m.
  • Some lanes on North SR-1 at 41st Avenue are closed off and on because of road paving. This started yesterday and will end on June 10 at 4:59 a.m.
  • The southbound lanes of SR-1 at Soquel Drive are taking turns being closed because of paving work. This started yesterday and will continue until June 10.
  • A lane on North SR-1 at 41st Avenue was closed because of roadwork. This started yesterday and ended today.
  • Long-term projects: In Santa Cruz, there’s been a single-lane closure on Mattison Lane and Soquel Drive since May 21, happening on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. This is due to emergency repairs on the sewer main. The closure is expected to last until today.
