Dieter Holger looks into a new piece of legislation, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which seeks to lower housing costs through a variety of changes to regulations and funding. However, there likely won’t be any immediate relief in Santa Cruz, local officials say, who instead predict the benefits to unfold over the next decade.
Mat Weir attended Oliver Tree’s celebration of life this past weekend at the UC Santa Cruz Quarry Amphitheater where friends, family members, and famous colleagues gathered to remember the Santa Cruz-born musician after his tragic, unexpected death in June. Weir, who knew Tree personally, walks us through the evening.

Santa Cruz says goodbye to Oliver Tree in emotional hometown celebration
Friends, family, fans and celebrity collaborators filled UC Santa Cruz’s Quarry Amphitheater to celebrate the life of Santa Cruz musician Oliver Tree in a three-hour memorial that blended music, comedy and heartfelt tributes. The emotional hometown farewell highlighted both Tree’s global impact and the lasting legacy he leaves in the community that shaped him.
