Westside / Downtown news

The long-awaited reopening of the shopping center at Mission and King streets in Santa Cruz is on the horizon, with a fresh look and new amenities, including an outdoor seating area and the return of La Cabaña Taqueria and Arrow Surf Shop. Meanwhile, Santa Cruz’s ambitious SoLa district plan, featuring a new Warriors arena, 1,600 housing units with a 20% affordable housing mandate, and pedestrian-friendly designs, is moving forward.

  • A person was arrested in Santa Cruz near the 100 Block of Cliff St. at 9 p.m. on June 7. The charges include intentionally harming animals, resisting or obstructing police officers or emergency medical technicians, attacking a peace officer or emergency personnel, being disorderly because of alcohol, and other felonies and misdemeanors.
