In honor of the Giant Dipper roller coaster’s 100th birthday, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk teamed up with Discretion Brewing in Soquel to brew a commemorative beer. Giant Dipper Golden Ale will be released May 18 and will be available through the summer.

Restaurateur-chef duo plots transformation of Aptos’ Palapas to Mexican seafood-focused Dos Pescados
Business partners Brandon Smittcamp and chef Trent Lidgey have plans to transform the 34-year-old Palapas Cantina in Seascape into Dos Pescados, an elevated but casual Mexican seafood restaurant. Palapas will close May 19 and aims to reopen as Dos Pescados in June.

Dolphin Restaurant to be demolished due to damage as city plans ‘reimagining’ of end of wharf
The Dolphin Restaurant at the end of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf will be demolished in order to fix pilings underneath it damaged in a December storm surge. The city hasn’t yet determined whether the restaurant, which has stood at the end of the wharf since 1963, will be rebuilt, and plans to bring the issue to the community in a “reimagining process” on how to use the space.

After his family lost their home in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, Paystand founder and CEO Jeremy Almond went back to school to figure out how to reduce the economy’s reliance on the traditional banking system. Paystand uses blockchain-based technology to allow mid-sized companies to do things like pay vendors directly without having to mail them a paper check or automate payments for recurring bills. Earlier this month, it acquired New York-based Teampay, which brings Paystand’s network of companies to more than a million.
