A 4.2-magnitude earthquake centered near Watsonville was felt throughout the area just before 4 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Within a short time, thousands of people had reported feeling it, according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s tracking site.
The USGS’s site reports the quake as happening approximately 1.9 miles northwest of Aromas and 4.6 miles deep at 2:47 a.m.
Santa Cruz County residents took to Facebook in the moments after quake to report feeling “two jolts” and a “good shake,” with others saying that they woke up with their bed or “whole house” shaking.
