Cuthbert spent 25 years at UCSC, and was especially known for his work in set and lighting design. His work as a stage designer has been seen in theaters all over California, and on Billy Crystal’s Tony Award-winning Broadway production of “700 Sundays.” He designed countless productions at UCSC and was a staunch advocate of the university’s student-run Barnstorm production company.

He is survived by his wife, theater director and playwright Kirsten Brandt, and his daughter, Sophia. His memorial service and reception will take place at the Mainstage Theatre on the UCSC campus at noon on March 22.
