Santa Cruz Police are investigating after someone shot at a car full of people Sunday afternoon on the city’s west side, causing no injuries.
Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the Wilkes Circle area, by the Circles on the Westside, at about 5:34 p.m. on Sunday. Officers secured the scene and searched the area of suspects, but did not locate any. On Monday, police said they had not yet identified or arrested any suspects.
Investigators said they believe the incident may be gang-related. While no one was injured in the shooting, Santa Cruz Police Department spokesperson Katie Lee said once arrested, the suspect will likely face charges or attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon for each victim.
A press release from the Santa Cruz Police Department said that multiple pieces of evidence were collected from the scene. Lee said that the department would not provide further information on what types of evidence police had recovered due to the ongoing investigation.
