Michael A. Lewis’ recent letter to the editor opined on a few topics from Mike Rotkin’s March 31 Community Voices piece. Unfortunately, Mr. Lewis’ comments bear clarification and correction.

First, Mr. Lewis opines that “The oft-repeated claim that the majority of the ‘public’ voted no on Measure D is blatantly false.”

While I would agree with that, it must be pointed out that, what Mr. Rotkin actually said was “three-fourths of the public who voted in June 2022 to reject the Greenway ballot measure.” Mr. Rotkin did not imply that 73% of the total number of voters or even the population at large voted against Measure D, but he is correct in that 73% of those who did vote in June 2022 had voted against Measure D.

Second, Mr. Lewis stated that “Rotkin claimed that the supervisors’ decision ‘makes it difficult for the county to complete a state application for additional funding by the June deadline at the California Transportation Commission.'” Mr. Lewis failed to mention that Mr. Rotkin also stated later in his piece that “action by the April 9 board meeting might allow the county to meet the state’s funding deadline.”

Facts do matter, Mr. Lewis, regardless of your opinion!
