At classrooms across Santa Cruz County, students are discovering the power of local journalism through Lookout in the Classroom. At Diamond Technology Institute in Watsonville, that mission came to life as two students were recognized as finalists in Lookout’s “Unsung Santa Cruz” journalism scholarship, part of a countywide effort to spotlight community changemakers through student reporting. From folding handmade zines to interviewing local sources, students are gaining real-world storytelling experience — and in some cases, discovering a future career path along the way.
