Since May 21, the Midtown Fridays Block Party has brought fresh life into the parking lot located at 1111 Soquel Ave., between the Fire Department and the Diversity Center. Sponsored by the City of Santa Cruz, Midtown Fridays are a way to highlight an area that is often overlooked with a weekly event featuring local businesses, music, and community.
Lookout is contributing 10% of new memberships to United Way Santa Cruz County’s Stuff the Bus school supply drive, which provides backpacks full of supplies for local students experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity and other hardships. More than 2,800 local students experienced homelessness during the 2024-25 school year, according to the Santa Cruz County Office of Education.
Right now — thanks to a matching donor — your contribution is being doubled, meaning each new annual membership fills a backpack for an entire student in need.
Every One-for-One membership provides a local teacher with free access to Lookout’s local news coverage. When you upgrade today, you can dedicate your support of free educational access to a teacher in your life. If they teach in Santa Cruz County, designate them to receive access and Lookout will send an invite.
