The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of a body that washed up on Its Beach in Santa Cruz last Friday, right next to Steamer Lane.

The person was identified as Noah Lee Kim, 21, of Los Angeles. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Keehn confirmed that Kim was a UC Santa Cruz student.

The update comes just over a week after an undergraduate UC Santa Cruz student jumped off a cliff near Steamer Lane and did not appear to exit the water after struggling to escape the ocean. Keehn did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether or not it is believed that Kim was the missing swimmer.

The Coast Guard, along with the Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley and Central Fire departments, harbor patrol and California State Parks began searching for the missing swimmer, but called off the search after over an hour. Coast Guard units stayed on scene to continue searching with both aircraft and a boat.
