A fire burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains was fully contained as of 1:38 p.m. Friday, according to Cal Fire officials.
The Hermon fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. off Mount Hermon Road between Scotts Valley and Felton, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Cecile Juliette. Multiple crews, including from Cal Fire’s CZU and SCU units, responded to the nearly 2.3-acre blaze.
On social media, the California Highway Patrol said it had closed Mount Hermon Road between Conference Drive and Lockwood Lane, and advised residents to avoid the area if possible. CHP spokesperson Israel Murillo told Lookout the roads will remain closed for a few hours as fire crews clear up the scene near the heavily traveled artery as afternoon rush hour approached.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Juliette said, adding that no structures were threatened by the fire and no injuries have been reported.
