To prepare for wildfire season and support home hardening efforts, Santa Cruz County’s Community Development and Infrastructure department will offer free yard waste disposal for residents of the San Lorenzo Valley and unincorporated areas of Scotts Valley every Saturday in August at the Ben Lomond Transfer Station, 9835 Newell Creek Rd.
This program, a cooperative effort with District 5 County Supervisor Monica Martinez, is intended to support vegetation management and defensible space in high-risk areas, specifically available to District 5 residents living in unincorporated areas, with proof of residency required. No appointment is necessary and there is a 2-ton maximum per load, with standard yard waste restrictions applying.
If someone else is hauling your yard waste, a signed affidavit is required for each load. Forms will be collected and verified on-site. Abuse of the affidavit system may result in loss of the fee waiver.
