Oppidan Investment Company will break ground Wednesday on Ananta Senior Living Community, a 75,000-square-foot assisted living and memory care facility located at 102 Pelton Ave. in Santa Cruz.

The Santa Cruz City Council approved the senior living facility near West Cliff Drive in 2022 after a series of appeals over both the number of affordable units and environmental concerns.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. The Ananta project marks Oppidan’s 12th senior living development nationwide and its fourth in California.

The community will feature 76 apartments with studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom layouts. Amenities include outdoor courtyards, a theater, a dining room with a pizza oven, a salon, a wellness center and a gelato bar, with many spaces offering ocean views.

The facility is located next to the Shrine of St. Joseph Catholic church and is within walking distance of coastal trails and neighborhood shops.

Calson Management, a company with eight senior living properties in California, will manage the facility in its first partnership with Oppidan. Pleasanton-based W.E. O’Neil is serving as general contractor.

Construction is expected to wrap in late 2026, with residents moving in as early as 2027.
