Many of us want to go home for the holidays this year – and it’s no different for shelter animals! To encourage the adoption of homeless pets, the Santa Cruz SPCA (SCSPCA) is offering a Home For the Holidays adoption special, between November 27th and December 29th, where you can name your own adoption fee on many of their adoptable animals! There is no better time to expand your family and save a life by adopting a dog or cat in need.

This year, the SCSPCA is welcoming the community to name their own adoption fee on the three types of animals filling animal shelters nationwide: large breed dogs, adult cats, and pets who have been waiting for homes for more than 30 days. By adopting one of these animals from the SCSPCA, you not only save that pet’s life, but you’re also helping to make room for another animal in need of sheltering!

Leonardo is as expressive and majestic as any da Vinci. This 4-year-old floof of a Shepherd, Malamute, Keeshond mix is an absolute sweet angel boy. He’s a compact 70 pounds who looks like he’d protect you but—in actuality—would let a robber in and then bring them a beer. Leonardo has never met a stranger he didn’t lick and has lived with men, women, and children in his past life. He has several dog friends, lives for strolls through the great outdoors, and is a total toy enthusiast.

Sylvester and Strawberry are two well-dressed cats waiting for the party. Both kitties came to us from the same rescue partner but didn’t really become friends until after their arrival at the SCSPCA. Strawberry, a 1 1/2 year-old female and Sylvester, a 1 1/2 year-old male, were rescued as kittens and have grown up without a permanent home. They are now eager to find out what that feels like! These two don’t necessarily need to go together. But, if you want the perfect yin and yang, adopting these two sweet kitties together could be pretty cool!

Name Your Own Adoption Fee for 30+ Day Stay Pets like FAWN

Fawn came to the SCSPCA with several of her pals more than 3 months ago. Fawn and her friends were rescued from a ‘hoarding situation,’ meaning they lived in a less-than-desirable situation during their formative years. Because of this, she hasn’t quite mastered all her canine skills, but every day this eager girl learns ‘how to dog’ just a little bit more.  Fawn loves keeping laps warm, squeaky toys, and zooming around with her doggie friends.  She is the epitome of resilience and is eager to spend the rest of her life being grateful for her future family.

This year’s Home for the Holidays event was made possible by generous donor, Kevin Kowalkowski, a dear friend of the animals and the Santa Cruz SPCA.
