Locals across the county reported feeling the seismic activity, with residents in just about every jurisdiction in Santa Cruz County and at least one person as far north as Half Moon Bay reporting that they felt it on social media. Within about 45 minutes of the earthquake, nearly 17,000 people reported feeling it to the USGS tracking site.
According to USGS’s Prompt Assessment of Global Earthquakes for Response (PAGER), a system that analyzes seismic data from sensors to estimate earthquakes’ impact, there is a low likelihood of casualties and damage associated with the earthquake.
Cal Fire wrote in a post on X that it had enacted its earthquake procedure and inspected all buildings. The agency has not observed any damage so far.
