The Santa Cruz County branch of the NAACP is holding its 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Day March for the Dream on Jan. 19 at 10 a.m.

This year’s theme will be “Stepping Into the Future Together,” following last year’s theme “Awakening to a New Day.”

In a media release, the NAACP called on the community to realize King’s vision of equality and justice by joining together “to defend democracy, civil rights, and each other from the discriminatory policies of the current federal administration.”

The march will start at the Black Lives Matter mural on Center Street in front of Santa Cruz City Hall. Afterward, there will be music and activities for children at Center and Church streets, where NAACP Santa Cruz County President Elaine Johnson will speak to the gathering.

More information and sign-up forms for volunteers and other community groups can be found on the NAACP website
