Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • Highway 1 at Mar Vista Drive in Aptos will be fully closed overnight on Sept. 20 and 21 for construction of a pedestrian bridge. The southbound lanes will close starting at 11 p.m. on Sept. 20.

Property development

  • On Sept. 4, the Santa Cruz County Planning Department formally approved a zoning application for a new one-bedroom, non-hosted short-term rental at 833 Valencia Rd. in Aptos. The approved project will allow overnight lodging for up to four guests at a time, with stays limited to a maximum of 30 days. The property will offer one on-site parking space and one non-exclusive street parking space for guests. Safety features at the site include smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers and egress windows and doors. Additionally, the property is equipped with a hot tub featuring a locking safety cover and decks with required guardrails. The application approval grants the necessary Non-Hosted Short Term Rental Permit for this location. (view application)
