Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department has received a zoning application for a project at 510 14th Avenue. The proposal seeks to renew a permit that would allow the operation of a two-bedroom vacation rental at this address. If approved, the permit would authorize the property to be used for overnight lodging for periods of up to 30 days at a time. The application is specifically for the approval of a Vacation Rental Permit. (view application)

Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • The code compliance case NV25237 for the property at 2222 Ocean St. Ext, Santa Cruz 95060, which was first cited on April 25, 2025, has now been resolved. The violation involved the reinstallation of a kitchen in an art studio, as confirmed by the Environmental Health (EH) department, with evidence gathered from realty listings. The case also noted the presence of a second kitchen in the single-family dwelling (SFD), which contributed to the compliance issue. The property owner has been assessed fees that must be paid to the county as part of the resolution process.
