An unused baseball diamond at Del Mar Elementary School in Live Oak is set to be transformed into a farm to grow food for the district’s nutrition program, educate students on agriculture, and serve as a community hub, with the project currently seeking funding. Liz Broughton, curator at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, brings the “Art of Nature” exhibit to life, showcasing 60 objects that encourage visitors to engage with and think about the natural world and its artistic representations, reflecting her dedication to making nature’s wonders relevant to the community.

Roadwork is affecting traffic near you
  • Yesterday, the entire northbound section of SR-1 at 41st Avenue was closed because they were pouring concrete.
  • Yesterday, the southbound side of SR-1 at Soquel Drive was completely closed because they were pouring concrete.
  • Long-term projects: In Santa Cruz, there’s a single-lane closure on Mattison Lane and Soquel Drive, near 265 Soquel Dr, happening from May 21 to June 7. This is only on weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for emergency sewer main repairs.
