The City of Santa Cruz will host an online community meeting on March 26 to discuss a proposed 100% affordable housing development at 525 Water St.
The top five floors of the six-story, mixed-use development at the corner of Market Street would hold approximately 94 affordable housing units. The ground floor would offer around 5,000 square feet of commercial tenant space. The development would also feature nearly 11,000 square feet of on-site parking, roughly equivalent to 35 to 40 car parking spots.
According to the city, the project is in line with Assembly Bill 2011, which was signed into law in 2022 and aims to create more affordable, climate-friendly housing for vulnerable demographics such as struggling families, older adults, workers and veterans.
The meeting about 525 Water St. will take place on Wednesday, March 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The community meeting is a required part of the city’s project planning process, and feedback the city receives via this webinar may contribute to alterations of the project design and additional project entitlements.
