The Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency is included in a list of California Highway Patrol funding recipients for impaired driving education, prevention and enforcement programs.
The California Highway Patrol announced more than $41 million in grant funding for 183 California law enforcement agencies, crime labs and local government agencies and nonprofits to help efforts to prevent and reduce impaired driving.
The Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency is among the recipients, with funding specifically for education about impaired-driving laws and for highlighting the dangers associated with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The agency was one of 11 to receive funding for these particular endeavors.
The funding comes from Proposition 64, a voter initiative to legalize cannabis in California, which also directs the law enforcement agency to administer grants for impaired driving education, prevention and enforcement programs. The grants also go toward forensic toxicology testing at crime labs.
