The Santa Cruz Symphony brings music and theater together this March with a powerful concert staging of Amadeus, inspired by Peter Shaffer’s celebrated play. This special production transforms the concert hall into a dramatic stage, immersing audiences in the legendary rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri.

Conceived for the concert stage by Music Director Daniel Stewart, the performance blends Mozart’s iconic music with live dramatic narration. The Symphony joins forces with the Cabrillo Symphonic Chorus and professional actors to bring the story to life, creating a unique experience that bridges classical music and live theater.

The production also features a collaboration with Santa Cruz Shakespeare, led by Artistic Director Charles Pasternak. Actors Anjoli Aguilar, Will Block, and Shaun Carroll deliver the dramatic narration, guiding audiences through the jealousy, ambition, and brilliance that defined one of classical music’s most famous rivalries.

As Mozart’s music unfolds live on stage, the story explores the tension between genius and envy, revealing the emotional world behind some of the most recognizable compositions in classical music.
