The first baby born in Santa Cruz County arrived at 12:44 a.m. at Watsonville Community Hospital. Hours later, Dominican Hospital welcomed the new year's second baby.

Watsonville Community Hospital welcomed Santa Cruz County’s first baby born in 2025 just 44 minutes after midnight, Ailany Galilea. 

Weighing 6 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 21 inches, Ailany was born to parents Magali Elias and Josué Reyes. Elias, like her daughter, was also born at Watsonville Community Hospital. 

In Santa Cruz, several hours later at 3:01 a.m., Dominican Hospital welcomed the county’s second baby born in 2025: Elliana Mae Azmy. She arrived weighing 6 pounds and measuring 21 inches.

Elliana’s parents, Lily Adelia Kornher and Elijah Azmy, are from Boulder Creek.
