What happens to your ballot after it’s mailed in or left in a drop box? Lookout’s Kevin Painchaud caught up with Santa Cruz County Clerk Tricia Webber for a behind-the-scenes look at how ballots will be processed and counted in the coming days.
Although California has had a tradition for years of early voting and mail-in ballots, this year’s tight presidential race and scrutiny of the process for both in swing states has local voters asking more questions this year.
Webber told Lookout’s Christopher Neeley that she’s fielded questions implying the that vote-by-mail ballots are counted only when the election is close (not true!), as well as concern over the time it takes to notify a voter their ballot has been counted.
