The City of Santa Cruz is seeking public input at three upcoming community meetings as it develops a “five-year roadmap” for West Cliff Drive that aligns with a “50-Year Community Vision” unveiled earlier this year.
That plan, developed over the course of a year with community input, “provides a comprehensive framework that will contribute to the long-term vision for West Cliff,” the city said in a release. “For the next phase of this project, the City will work with the community and stakeholders to develop a 5-year Roadmap for West Cliff, aligning it with the 50-year Community Vision and existing City work.”
The 50-year vision document included plans to preserve the area’s beauty, make it more resilient against the impacts of climate change, prioritize pedestrian and bicycle access, use park space as recreation and a buffer, the possible need for relocation and proposals for one-way vehicle access and other traffic changes.
January 2023 storms that caused significant damage to the area, leading to portions of West Cliff Drive remaining closed today, were an impetus for the process. The final five-year plan will be presented to the Santa Cruz City Council by January 2025.
Members of the public can participate in any of three upcoming meetings on the five-year plan:
