Road incidents as of 8:30 p.m. on Mar. 3

  • A semi-truck was stuck and causing a traffic hazard at the intersection of Trout Gulch Rd and Cathedral Dr in Aptos. The driver was trying to move it out of the road. This was reported today.
     
  • A traffic collision happened at 930 Via Gaviota in Aptos. It was first reported as a major injury collision but was later downgraded. Emergency services are on the way, and Coast Counties Towing has been notified to assist. The California Highway Patrol is monitoring the situation. This was reported today.
     
  • A traffic collision happened today on Highway 1 South near State Park in Aptos, involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. The incident was reported at 5:07 p.m. The motorcycle was blocking the left lane, and the rider was initially in the right lane before being moved to the middle lane. The vehicle also hit a barrel near a sign. Emergency services were on their way, and the rider was flown to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Traffic was heavily affected, with vehicles backing down and going the wrong way on the on-ramp to avoid congestion. The situation was managed with lane openings and coordination with Caltrans and local police.

Long-term projects

These have been going on for a while, but are still worth keeping in mind.

  • A single lane on Little Basin Rd in San Lorenzo Valley is closed from December 23 to April 25 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for the construction of two retaining walls, causing traffic delays.
     
  • A single lane on Little Basin Road near Big Basin Way in San Lorenzo Valley is closed for storm damage repair. This closure started on January 16 and is expected to last until May 13, weather permitting. Work is happening from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., causing traffic delays.
