California Highway Patrol (CHP) is asking for the public’s help after a fatal crash on Highway 1 in North Santa Cruz County claimed a pedestrian’s life late Sunday night.
The accident happened around 11:17 p.m. on southbound Highway 1, north of Scott Creek, near Davenport.
A man between the ages of 30 and 40 was walking in a southbound lane of Highway 1 when an unknown vehicle struck the man. For unclear reasons, the vehicle fled the scene after the collision.
The man landed in a southbound lane, sustaining major injuries. CHP believes he may have been struck later by several other vehicles.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office will release his identity after notifying his next of kin.
The cause of the accident is currently unclear. It is still unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
