Santa Cruz Public Libraries invites local artists of all abilities from ages 12 to 18 to join two free “Anime Your Way” drawing workshops with former “The Simpsons” artist Carlos Nieto III on Sunday, at the Aptos branch library at 12:30 p.m. and downtown branch library at 3 p.m.

At the 75-minute workshops, Nieto will teach a step-by-step program in which participants will create and modify an anime character from scratch. Anime is a form of art of Japanese origin, often adopted from Japanese comics, or manga.

These workshops are part of Santa Cruz Public Libraries’ summer reading program “Color Our World,” inviting young people to explore their creativity through library events. No prior experience is required. Space is limited to 30 participants per workshop, with registration required.
