California State Parks is planning a prescribed burn in the northeast corner of The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park into early February.

About 13 acres of forest along Santa Rosalia Ridge along Aptos Creek Fire Road will be the focus of the multi-day burn, which was slated to begin Tuesday.

These burns are permitted, planned and coordinated with the Monterey Bay Air Resources District to minimize smoke impacts on neighboring communities.

Residents of nearby Soquel and Corralitos could see smoke, which could also be visible around Monterey. While the park will remain open, fire officials advise avoiding outdoor activity as much as possible near active burns.

The burn will proceed if weather and air conditions allow for it.
