The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning fire at a county fire station in Bonny Doon as arson.

According to a media release, officers came to Santa Cruz County Fire Station 34 McDermott on Empire Grade Road at 4:43 a.m. Wednesday after a report of a water tender on fire. Fire crews were able to put the blaze out quickly, and there were no reports of injuries. The water tender was unsalvageable, but the rest of the fire station received only some smoke and water damage.

Preliminary findings led investigators to believe that the fire was intentionally set.
