Pacific Collegiate School went into lockdown Tuesday afternoon after receiving an anonymous threat call, but Santa Cruz police later determined the threat was not credible following a sweep of the campus. School officials said all students and staff were safe.

Pacific Collegiate School officials say its students and staff are all safe after a threat of violence was deemed false by law enforcement Tuesday afternoon.

PCS Head of School Chris Guyer told Lookout that the school, on Santa Cruz’s Westside, received an anonymous call around lunchtime making a threat to PCS.

“We do not believe that the threat is credible,” he wrote in a message to families. “However, all reasonable precautions are being taken.”

Guyer said all students were brought onto the campus, secured inside locked classrooms and 911 was called. Santa Cruz police officers responded and swept the school to confirm it was safe.

Guyer said an officer would remain on the campus for the rest of the school day and also during drop-off Wednesday morning.

Pacific Collegiate School, an independent public charter school, serves 535 students in grades seven through 12.
