Santa Cruz Shakespeare invites you to create a new holiday tradition for the whole family! This holiday season, Santa Cruz Shakespeare will stage their first-ever production of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens in Downtown Santa Cruz.
“This play is ultimately about generosity above all else. This beautiful, theatrical, thrilling little story is more necessary today than ever,” said SCS Artistic Director Charles Pasternak, who also will direct the production. “A Christmas Carol reminds us of what is best in all of us.”

A Christmas Carol is the ideal way to get into the holiday spirit! Afternoon and evening performances will take place at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Downtown Santa Cruz throughout December. Pair each magical performance with a stroll along Pacific Ave, popping into local retailers for your holiday shopping or enjoying a meal.
“It will be a wonderfully theatrical production, with five professional actors and two local kids playing all the parts in Dickens’ beautiful story,” continued Pasternak. “It is my sincere hope that we are creating a new holiday tradition for our community — one you can share with your children and grandchildren.”

The show, filled with music and traditional carols throughout, stars Santa Cruz favorites Mike Ryan as Scrooge and Julie James as, among many roles, the Ghost of Christmas Present. The intimate cast is rounded out with Charlotte Munson, Andrea Sweeney Blanco and Robert Zelaya. The child characters are played by local students Aria Atkinson, Lincoln Best, Sigrid Breidenthal and Joseph Pratt Lukefahr, who alternate performances.
The show features traditional carols such as “In the Bleak Midwinter,” “Wassail! Wassail! All Over the Town”, “I Saw Three Ships” and “The Holly and the Ivy.” The carols were arranged by Luke Shepherd, the production’s music director and sound designer.
A Christmas Carol runs now through December 24. Get your tickets today at https://santacruzshakespeare.org/
