  1. “Barbie”? On the beach? Under the Boardwalk? Can you possibly get any more plastic-fantastic-fabulous than that?
  2. The hardest-working entertainer in Santa Cruz? It just might be the talented Alex Lucero, who’s making a splash with a headlining Kuumbwa show Friday.
  3. The K-P Arena will be the spot to drink in (figuratively and literally) Santa Cruz’s culinary scene Saturday afternoon. It’s all there in the title of the event: “Forks, Corks & Kegs.”
  4. It’s too easy to assume that the age of the great sax players waned after Bird, Trane, Prez, Cannonball and Shorter. But Chris Potter is doing his generation proud. 
  5. July 4, you probably have plans. But July 3? Come out to Abbott Square to participate in Lookout Trivia Night, with me!
  6. Local DJs pop up at Ocean View Park overlooking the San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz to lead ecstatic dance sessions. All are welcome at Silent Disco in the Park. 
  7. Sadly, Prince isn’t walking through the door. But that doesn’t mean we can’t all celebrate one of the greatest artists of his era. Meet The Purple Ones.
  8. Yes, it’s sold out. But if you’re holding a ticket, you’ll soon have a new respect for the ukulele after Jake Shimabukuro does his thing.
  9. Running in the Santa Cruz Firecracker is the best excuse — maybe the only excuse — to get up early on the Fourth of July. Or sleep in and just show up for the fun after the race is over.
