  1. It’s been a long minute since our old friend Antsy McClain and his Trailer Park Troubadours have visited. Glad to see the king of mediocre guitarists back in town.
  2. The cheapest trip to New York City right now is a ticket to see “In the Heights” at the lovely Crocker Theater. Plus, no layovers, and you’re guaranteed to get dancing
  3. We are all so lucky that the amazing Brazilian jazz vocalist Claudia Villela is a local, and plays regularly at her home club, the Kuumbwa.
  4. Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” is as you like it — if you like it on a beautiful summer afternoon under the eucalyptus trees at The Grove.  
  5. You didn’t think Santa Cruz Shakespeare was done with its openings, did you? No, no. “Hamlet” gets ever closer to opening night, with preview performances next week.
  6. If the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music were a cruise ship, we could see it approaching on the horizon. Open rehearsals begin next week.
  7. This is the weekend to rediscover the magic of Bonny Doon, which you can do through the eyes of its artists.  
  8. The sensation of London 1895 is now the hot ticket at Santa Cruz Shakespeare in 2024, the endless witty “The Importance of Being Earnest.”
  9. One of the biggest live music festivals of the year happens on Sunday, but it’s done by lunchtime. Wharf to Wharf is not just about the runners, it’s about the performers as well.
