Quick Take

Watsonville police officers were investigating a suspicious device found on the Watsonville High School campus Thursday morning.

Watsonville police officers say a suspicious device found on the Watsonville High School campus Thursday morning was a “nonexplosive science experiment” and determined there’s no threat to the public.

City of Watsonville spokesperson Erika Vazquez told Lookout that the item was found inside school grounds by a staff member.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad investigated the device and made the determination, according to a Watsonville Police Department Facebook update

The department said all summer school students and staff are safe and evacuated from the school.

Previously, officers asked “everyone to avoid the area” as they investigated. They added that the school district will provide parents and guardians with updates.
