The third annual Black History Month Film Series continues Thursday evening at The 418 Project in downtown Santa Cruz with a showing and discussion of “Just Mercy,” a 2019 legal drama telling the story of lawyer Bryan Stevenson (played by Michael B. Jordan) and his work with Black prisoners on death row in the South. “This is a safe and truthful space. The intent is to build bridges and allow for conversation around the impacts of race, social justice, and the Black American experience,” host Taj Leahy, aka Father Taj, writes of the series, which finishes next week with “BlacKkKlansman.” “Let’s hear with open ears and speak with open hearts. Given the state of our country, now more than ever, we need to be together and dedicate ourselves to Love.” Admission is on a sliding scale from $10 to $20. – Will McCahill
