At 1440 Multiversity in Scotts Valley, build confidence in the kitchen with a hands-on knife skills class on Monday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Teaching Kitchen Academy: Knife Skills includes instruction on proper handling and safety, sharpening and care, and a range of essential cuts, including mincing, dicing, slicing and julienne. Tickets are $92.55. 

Learn how to bake beautiful loaves of sourdough bread from one of the best in the biz. Companion Bakeshop is offering a class on Sourdough Basics: Simple Sourdough at Home on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at its Westside Santa Cruz bakery. Students will learn the process and go home with a sourdough starter, a basket and a loaf ready to bake. Tickets are $150.
