At Lookout Santa Cruz, we do more than report the news – we build community. Through our Civic Partners Program, we team up with local organizations that work every day to create a more connected, informed, and thriving Santa Cruz County. Today, we’re proud to announce our newest Civic Partner: the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation.

The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation’s mission is to support the Shelter through public advocacy, partnership building, and fundraising.  It helps to cover the costs for core services such as animal control; licensing and rabies vaccinations; safe housing for strays and surrenders; and intervention in animal abuse cases. The Foundation is also proactive in tackling root causes of animal overpopulation and suffering by offering prevention programs, exceptional medical care, humane education and community outreach.

As the largest and most comprehensive animal care and rescue organization in the county, the open-admission Animal Shelter took in about 7,000 animals last year. Government funding is limited, so their life-saving and pet homelessness prevention programs depend on the Foundation and the support of the community. With two locations in Santa Cruz and Watsonville, the Shelter partners with nonprofit, the Foundation, to ensure these crucial services continue and grow.

There are many ways to get involved with the Foundation and Shelter including volunteering, fostering, donating and of course adopting!  Running from December 1st through the 15th, “Holiday Hope” will be offering a $50 adoption special on ALL cats and dogs, kittens and puppies.  Thanks to the Bissell Foundation and their Empty the Shelters initiative, “Holiday Hope” is seeking to find furever families for hundreds of loving animals.
